Winter Wonderland

Hi All!

First let me say thank you for reading each week! I love to hear your responses, whether these letters made you cry or laugh or come to an event – it makes me smile to feel more connected to so many of you! Thank you to everyone who let’s me know you’re reading and enjoying these small efforts!

We’ve been busy over here planning for our winter events: Shop Local, Light Up Lead and Winterfest 2020! In a way it’s gotten my head in the winter game and gotten me excited for everything coming up. That’s the strange thing about planning way in advance, you almost feel like you have a foot in both the present and the future. The snow then doesn’t seem like such a crazy thing to me – as my head is already in winter. So cheers to many fabulous winter plans – maybe this is a good time to make your own plans for all the ways you’re going to make the most of this season!

And…. here’s what’s happening this week in Lead:

Tonight, Thursday 10/10
We were supposed to have our October Mixer with Black Hills Energy in conjunction with Deep Talks. Due to this really unpredictable storm we’ve rescheduled it for Thursday 10/24 – mark your calendars! Mike Eyre will be here talking about the history of energy in the Black Hills (it’s a fascinating story, with Lead right at its heart!) Food and reception from 4:30-6:00 and talk from 6-7.

Friday, 10/11
11am – The storm should be finished tomorrow morning and we may all have a little cabin fever so provided everything looks rosey come down to the SMART center at the Historic Homestake Opera House for Music and Movement with Friends for children ages 0-6 (with an adult).

5:30-7:30 – Have older kids? Burn off some steam at Family Skate Night at the Handley Recreation Center. $5 admission covers skate rentals as well.

Saturday, 10/12
9am-2pm – Deadwood Gulch is having a craft fair at the convention center. This event is open and free to attend, and just $20 if you’d like to get a table to sell your wares. Call JoAnna at 605-717-6939 for more information.

Tuesday, 10/15 (previously was supposed to be Wed 10/9) – 5pm Create & Cultivate Happy Hour with Meg Manke will now happen next Tuesday at 5pm. She’s a funny and engaging speaker so I hope you’ll come enjoy her presentation next week with us! Snacks and drinks provided. (Please use backdoor, it will be marked as the Visitor Center will be closed).

Wednesday, 10/16
5-7pm – Empty Bowls at the Deadwood Social Club. Empty Bowls is a soup kitchen type project where artists, along with students from Lead Deadwood High School, Spearfish High School & Black Hills State University have donated handmade pottery bowls. Participants buy a bowl for $10 and fill it with soup donated by the Deadwood Social Club. All funds raised will be donated to the local food banks. For more information call Karen Everett at the Lead Deadwood Arts Center at 584-1461

Deadwood History is continuing their Paranormal Investigations of the Adams House. Check their website for all the details including times and tickets. www.DeadwoodHistory.com
