Good morning!
I hope you’ve had a great week so far – for some reason Thursday always seems to surprise me. “Oh, hello again! Didn’t expect to meet you so soon!” Today is even worse as somehow July has slunk off and we’d barely gotten to know each other!
This week I’ve been working on a speech I’m going to give about the history and future of Lead. If you want to learn a thing, get ready to teach it! I know you probably don’t know this by now, but I love Lead. When I was a kid we would come back to visit my grandparents and my mom would take us for walks around town. She would see houses and people that would prompt great stories about this town. (She is a great storyteller! See the videos from Plains Speaking People that are up now! https://plainsspeakingpeople.com/pastperformers) I am always a bit jealous of people who grew up here when Lead was booming, but her stories made the town come alive. They made me fall in love. One of my personal goals in this job is to help other people see that quaint little town that I know and fall in love too.
Here’s what’s happening in our town this week:
Today, Thursday 8/1
3pm – pie social! We meet in the picnic shelter at Manuel Brother’s Park. This week our regular musicians have left us for vacation – but if you have an instrument to play, bring it down! Pies today are made by Joyce Carstens.
Tomorrow, Friday 8/2
5pm – Miners’ Tin Cup is having their First Friday Artist Reception at their shop until 9pm. (I love that they’re giving staying up late a go!) They’ll be hosting Cody “Zitro” Ortiz with a new art style in charcoal, ink and pencil. Cody“Zitro”Ortiz with a new art style in charcoal, ink and pencil. I will be giving my speech, so I hope you’ll go down and support them for me!
5pm-7pm Make it a whole evening and stop by the art reception of the Linking Fences project Cary Thrall with CAT Scratch studios has done in Manuel Brother’s Park. It’s a pretty neat project with several different groups so stop by and check this out.
Next week Trinity United Methodist church is hosting their annual Rally Biker Breakfast. Come down to the Christian Ministry Center Sunday-Friday from 7-11am and grab breakfast (you don’t need to be a biker). They even have gluten free pancakes.
Don’t forget City Commission meeting on Monday 8/5 at 5pm. These meetings are open to the public and a great way to hear what’s going on around town.
Welcome to our new members:
Melissa Hampton, Financial Advisor with Edward Jones – did you know that she’ll will come to you to help with financial planning? We’re thrilled to have our first financial advisor on our books!
Also a welcome to Quality Quick Prints, a large scale printer, who recently acquired PrintComm.
Due to some scheduling changes our September mixer is up for grabs. If you or your business would like to host, or host in conjunction with another business let’s talk! September too short notice? We’re also booking mixers for 2020 so jump on the schedule!
Please stay safe during Rally week!
