Half Started? Or Half Over?

Happy Thursday Friends!

Remember when I talked about my word of the year ….. way back in January? Several of you wrote back to tell me the words you chose. Now that we’re more than halfway done with 2021 (crazy!) how is your word coming along? Have you still been using it? Or did you forget all about it? Maybe it’s time to pick it up, dust it off and revisit the reasons you chose it in the first place!

In that spirit, I’m revisiting my word, which was “embrace” and deciding how I’d grade myself on my application of this word. Have I embraced good times? Bad times? Critiques? Challenges? Exercise? Healthy Eating? Friendships? Work? Parenting?

I’ll be giving this some thought this week and haven’t come up with a good answer but I’ll mull it over some more.

_____ Here’s what’s happening around town this week

Thursday 7/8 – 5-6:30pm – “Seeking the Unseen,” an art exhibit inspired by Gina Gibson’s residency at SURF, will be at the Lead Deadwood Arts Council. A reception will be held with light refreshments. The exhibit will be on display at LDAC from July 8 through August 20.

Friday 7/9 – 12pm – History on the Lawn: The Ghost Town of Tinton, South Dakota – Established in 1903, the town of Tinton, South Dakota, now sits abandoned and alone in the last untouched area of the Northern Hills. During its fifty years of existence it shined as a juxtaposition against the well-earned reputation of the Black Hills being a gold mining region. While its mines did produce gold, they also rendered tin, mica, tantalite, feldspar, and spodumene. Historian, writer, and conservationist, Chris Hills, will explain how the town’s life was influenced by its non-traditional products and why it ultimately failed. Bring a lunch and enjoy the Historic Adams House lawn; 12:00 p.m.; free for members and $5 for non-members. In case of inclement weather, the lecture will be moved to the Homestake Adams Research and Cultural Center (HARCC).
