Busy Days Ahead!

Good Afternoon (yes, I’m a little late today!)

Thank goodness for sunny days! Isn’t today glorious? If you’re not here in town you’re missing out on extra crispy skies and green grass from all the rain we’ve had this week. Actually this week marked the first real rain storms we’ve had this spring! I enjoyed them, but I’m loving the sun! Big things are around the corner for Lead and it’s exciting to be trying to keep up with everything!

Earlier this week Christine and I attended the Black Hills Badlands & Tourism Associations annual Literature Swap and Attractions update meeting. This gave us a chance to plug Lead to all other organizations in the Black Hills and also distribute our Lead magazine to them as well as drop off several hundred magazines for distribution along the I90 corridor in South Dakota! We’re excited to be making a difference for Lead on behalf of our membership and our town!

_____ Here’s what’s happening around town this week

Thursday-Saturday, The Black Hills Mining Museum is still in their soft opening stage for May but will be open weekends until Memorial Day when they’ll start being open every day. If you haven’t ever had a chance to visit they’ve made many improvements to their exhibit space this year. They also received funding to help install a new ADA automatic door care of Thyssen Mining – which is pretty exciting!

Saturday, 5/8 – Join the downtown and adjacent businesses for their very first monthly SECOND SATURDAYS in LEAD! The various businesses will be having treats and giveaways and everyone is invited to bring their mom and enjoy all the cool stuff Lead has to offer!

Don’t forget that Sunday is MOTHER’S DAY! There are several great dining options in town including a special menu from Cheyenne Crossing, Deadwood Mountain Grand, The Lodge, and others! Be sure to call ahead and make a reservation as this always helps the staff prepare.

Also happening on Sunday are Mother’s Day tours of the Adams House Museum in Deadwood! Mother’s can tour the house for free! You can call 605-578-3724 for more information.

Tuesday, 5/11 – 4pm – The Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center will have their monthly kids STEAM class for kids in grades K-8. This month come learn about chemical reactions and volume while making a huge soda explosion! These classes are free thanks to a grant from Black Hills Energy and support from Thyssen Mining and SD Mines. We are still asking parents to register their children so we can plan. Call Leigha (605)584-3110

Wednesday, 5/12 – 9am-noon – Shepherd’s Pantry will be open at Shepherd of the Hills Church at 825 W. Main St. Call (605)722-1206 for more information

Thursday, 5/13 – 12noon – Preservation Thursday: King of the Hills: The Untold Story of the Real Al Swearingen This event will happen at the Homestake Adams Research and Cultural Center See DeadwoodHistory.com for more information.

______News & Notes

Our fairly new membership director, Bryan quit so we are running a little short staffed and behind. If you know of someone who might be interested in this job please send them our way. In the meantime also know that we’re doing the best we can to keep up with everything and give you all the attention you deserve and need! If there’s something you would like help with, or an event your member business/org is hosting please be sure to let us know so we can include it here and in our other promotional materials!

Member emails updates – We’re working to keep you better informed via email about what’s coming up next! Some of you have said just one email a week isn’t enough, some of you probably think it’s too much. It’s on our list of things to work on!

Trolley Tours – We’ve opened our brand new and improved VISIT LEAD guided trolley tours for the summer! We’re still hiring and staffing and with the weather this month is our ramp up month, so please call ahead if you would like to get a tour this month. Otherwise in a few weeks we’ll be fully staffed and running seven days a week!

Hope you have a wonderful day and that you get to go out and enjoy the sun!

With Love from Lead,
Sierra Ward
