Howdy!
Did you enjoy Winterfest?! We hope so!! We had a great time at our annual festival, and as always we thought of some ways to improve next year, and have made some notes about stuff we can add and more ways to make it even funner! (Yes, funner!!)
Now that that hurdle is behind us, we’re on to the next big project, one of my favorites – our annual Lead magazine. Just like last year we’re keeping the format: half visitor’s guide and half relocation/living guide. We’re making it even more user friendly and full of handy information! This week we’re working to finalize ad sales and content – part of which is our annual printed directory of members. If you’d like to be included be sure your membership is paid by 2/14! Thank you to everyone who has already purchased ad space – not only is this a super cheap way to get the word out about your business (in 15,000 copies!!) – it also helps us send this magazine far and wide so people hear about how awesome our great city is! If you still want to place an ad we have just a few more slots left but we’ll need to hear from you asap as we’re wrapping it up next Friday 2/14, or when it’s full – whichever comes first!

6pm – Calamity Shindig: Deadwood History Fundraiser. No one threw a better party than Calamity Jane. Saturday, 2/7
9am – Black Hills Playhouse brings one day skit workshop to Homestake Opera House. The Dakota Players, the youth outreach arm of the Black Hills Playhouse, will host a one day skit workshop at the Historic Homestake Opera House on Saturday, from 9am-4pm. Youth in grades K-8 are invited to participate, and will learn an entire skit in one day and perform it for family and friends at 4:00 pm on the stage of the Homestake Opera House. Participants in this workshop will learn characterization, stage movement, and an entire skit, all in one day. There are parts suitable for every age and skill level. The cost for the full day workshop is $20 per child, and includes lunch. Family discounts and scholarships available. This workshop is sponsored by the Black Hills Area Community Foundation. Monday, February 10
6pm – Night of the Arts: Band, students from Lead-Deadwood High School Band who are participating in the Region 8 Solo and Ensemble competition will perform a concert to practice for their competition. Tuesday, February 11
5pm – Book Club at the Hearst Library, all welcome to attend, whether you read/finished/never heard of the book we’re reading this month! It’s always a fun time.
Speaking of the library, did you know they’re hosting another Race to Read this winter? Here’s a note from Katie, “I was wondering if you gals would be willing to put a little blurb encouraging people to sign up for Race to Read: Part Deux. Like, “Adult Reading Challenge – Sign up February 1-14 at Lead Library,” or something similar, yet perhaps with a bit more panache. (Ok I don’t know what panache is, exactly, but you know what I mean, right?) Anywho, it’s Friday. I’m going home. I hope you are gearing up with a faaabulous weekend with those boys, especially that cute little bear. Holy cow that outfit is cute! Ok that’s all. Later Gater.” She’s the best, isn’t she? I’m thinking of having a group, if you’d like to join my group let me know 🙂
And if you’re looking for plans for Valentine’s day (that’s next week!) consider movie night with your sweety at the Homestake Opera House. They’ll be showing “French Kiss” and tickets at $20/pp and include snacks, a drink and popcorn. I might take my favorite plumber and my little bear and watch one of my favorite movies!
Does your member organization/business have an event that we didn’t get on the calendar? We really try to troll all the places (cough, cough Facebook) and collect the things for our calendar and emails but sometimes we miss stuff so please let us know if you have something coming up!!
